The Poortjie

Poortjie is a renovated Farmworkers Cottage close to the Main Farmstead and is equipt with Eskom power, a Lapa and Stoep. It  sleeps 4 people in 2 Bedrooms and has one full bathroom.  This cottage is for self catering guests and accessible by sedan.  It has limited Vodacom reception.

There are no TV's of any kind on the farm.

The Ouwerwe

This house was the outbuilding of the original farmstead on Bucklands, which once was an Inn on the Ox Wagon Route from Cape Town to Uitenhage.  The building was also used as a school, with a teacher all the way from England, and occasionally as a jail for prisoners on their way to the magistrate in Uitenhage.

Today it is a 3 bedroom house with 2 full bathrooms and fully equiped kitchen, a nice fire place in the lounge, and a huge veranda with braai facilities.  The house sleeps 12 people.  It has a gas stove and fridge, and a wood burning boiler for hot water.  There is no Eskom Power, no cell phone reception, and also no TV.  The purpose of the Ouwerwe is to break away from it all, and experience the veld, the game and old fashioned family life, as it used to be.  This place has atmosphere and you will have the kuier of a lifetime.

Acces to the Ouwerwe is by bakkie or SUV only.  No 4x4 is required.

The Blougat Cave

The Blougat is a big pool in the Grootriviers Poort and it has a small cave where we offer guided stay overs.  This is an all inclusive experience for up to 6 people.  Guests have to be able to walk over rough terrain for about an hour.

We take the guests to the mountain in our 4x4 vehicle, escort them to the cave, prepare their meals, make the fire, and help them with the fishing, if needed.  All they have to do is pour their own drinks, which is not provided.  There is a flush toilet and a hot water bush shower.  Guests sleep on stretchers.

One night sleep overs are fun, but two nights are better, as we then have time to visit bushman paintings, hike down the poort and fish.  The fish eagle call all day long and by night the leopard may pass the cave on his way by.

This is an experience hard to beat, and rather unique.

Guests have to keep in mind that they have to arrive on Bucklands with about two hours of sunlight left, as it takes two hours to reach the cave, and doing it in the dark is not advisable.

We regret, no camping or unguided entry to the Blougat Cave.

We have camping facilities near the event venue with spotlights over the camp grounds, working toilets and warm showers, but own camping gear is required.

We also have spots allocated for 4x4 campers who are fully equipped with their own gear as there are no facilities at the 4x4 camps.  The camps are shaded and close to the river, for swimming and fishing.  Campers have access to the 4x4 trails and 4x4 playground and are allowed to self drive anywhere on the farm.  Terms and conditions apply.

Hiking Route Cave

We have a hiking route down the Grootriviers Poort with a sleep over cave about 7 hours from the farmstead.  The cave has a kettle and braai grid, but no ablution facilities.  The river is close by for swimming.  The route is not marked, but we supply a good map with GPS coordinates.  Fitness level required: Very fit.
